Well, this is my first blog post. Sorry it has taken so long to get round to doing. Time seems to have flown by since arriving down here over a month ago now. I hope to post a little more regularly than this.
I can’t quite believe I am already a month in. It’s quite a scary thought. But I could not have asked for the first month to go any better. I have settled in really really well, which is a big answer to prayer, because that was one of my biggest fears; not being able to settle. But here I am, completely settled and enjoying life.
As expected, I am being kept busy. One of my main areas of work this year will be on the Light and Life – St. Austell website. I am part of a brand new team of about 5 people taking on the website and looking to push it forward.
There are also various outreach projects which I am part of for this year. As you may or may not know, Light and Life – St. Austell owns a coffee shop in the town centre. From here, the church also operates a foodbank service, distributing food to those who need it in the local area. I am part of the team which helps run the shop and the foodbank.
Linked to this is the work which goes on at Cosgarne Hall. Cosgarne Hall look to provide temporary accomodation and rehabilitation for anyone who is homeless. They address the problems, and set about turning peoples lives around. The church run a “Life Group” every wednesday in Cosgarne Hall, which gives the residents at Cosgarne a chance every week, to join together for a meal, to chat and to hear a talk and a bit from the bible. I amĀ part of the team which runs the life group and will be involved fortnightly in that for the time being.
The third project I am apart of is the weekly football that we run on a sunday afternoon. Aiming just to get along side the young people in St. Austell, the football is a great way just to build up friendships and start getting to know the people that are there. Being a big fan of football, its also a great way for me to really get out and have some fun while reaching to the young people that are there.
Finally I have a big involvment with the youth work within the church. I currently help to lead the youth growth group that runs on a thursday evening and also helping out with the youth group which is running on a friday evening.
There are a few points which I would like to ask for prayer for. Firstly for the projects that are going on as mentioned above. Secondally, for me as I make desicions on the bible course I will start to study. I really need to make a desicion by the end of this week, so prayer that I choose the right course for me would be very much appreciated!
Just want to say thankyou for all your thoughts and prayers already! I really feel God has his hand on this, and that God is right here walking beside me. I gave my testimony in church a few weeks back, and read out the verse Jeremiah 29:11.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future…”
Two weeks later, a gift from a friend came through the post. On it read the verse, Jermiah 29:11. Although she had no idea what I had read out just weeks before, she knew it was right for me. And then in conversation with a friend here, they said to continue reading beyond that verse. It is so easy to just read that verse and forget the rest. Jeremiah 29:11 is an incredible verse and is so true of what God does for us. But Jeremiah 29:12-14 tells of what we should do for him.
“Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity. I will gather you from all
